CHARITY

The Guangzhou Women’s International Club (GWIC) has a charity component which is very hands on. Throughout the year we identify projects, direct fundraising and oversee a project’s completion to make a difference in the local community. We support discrete projects as our funding structure makes it difficult to commit to long term ventures. Our priority is working with children and young people.

We work closely with a number of charity organisations to identify suitable projects particularly the Guangdong International Volunteer Expatriate Service (GIVES) for more information see www.gives.cn. Over the past few years we have provided a hearing aid to a young boy and helped two polio victims by providing operations and leg braces.

In addition we work with Guangzhou Huiling, a local charity working with mentally disabled people. We have provided a playground safety mat for a kindergarten and more recently bought a solar water heater for the primary school’s hostel.

Fundraising is through special events such as our bi-annual shoe sale, holiday bazaar and ticket sales and donations at GWIC dinners and social events. If you want to get involved please contact our Charity Liaisons Services Officer or visit Contact Us.
