Guangzhou is located at the heart of the flourishing Pearl River Delta area and is the capital of Guangdong province. As a major city in Southern China it is one of the most important trading hubs in the PRC and is the host of the China Import and Export Fair (CIEF) twice annually. There are many different provinces that make up the sprawling city, four historic districts (Yuexiu, Liwan, Dongshan and Haizhu) and eight newer districts (Tianhe, Baiyun, Huangpu, Fangcun, Nansha, Luogang, Panyu and Huadu).
Mandarin and Cantonese are widely spoken. The area is famous for its Cantonese cuisine, particularly dim sum (or yum cha), and also boasts a wide selection of international cuisines. With both centuries-old history and culture alongside modern international structures Guangzhou is a unique, energetic place to discover.
